Hi guys,

I am planning a driving trip from Sydney to Melbourne from Mar 8-10 and will be flying our from Melbourne on Mar 14.

A few questions to check with you guys out here:

1. Coastal or inland from Syd to Mel?
2. Any good places to stop and visit and stay a night along the way?
3. how long do i need to do the great ocean route drive and if need to stay the night, where will be a good place?
4. Can penguin watching in philip island be a day trip?

Thanks lots in advance!

If you plan to drive from Sydney to Melbourne, you have a choice of two major road routes to follow. The first leg of the Sydney-Melbourne Heritage Drive heads out of Melbourne north-east to the regional city of Bendigo. You can also take the direct route from Sydney or Melbourne along the Hume Highway (31) to begin your tour of the Great Alpine Road. It's an easy drive from Sydney, with lots to see along the way.
